Note the front end loader marks on the area of the dune that was destroyed by hurricane María in September of 2017 and later by Winter Storm Riley in March of 2018. The heavy machinery was used by the municipal government to push the sand that was displaced by the storms into the road. An artificial dune was created. This area of the dune was destroyed by the storms because it had no vegetation since the area is used as an access point to the beach. People walking randomly on this area did not allow vegetation to grow therefore the area was not stable when the storms hit.
