This workbook calculates total population exposed to flooding. This includes two submetrics: total residential population and total non-residential population exposed to flooding.

Inputs for each of these metrics come GIS modeling of the AOIs. Each metric is calculated for three flood events (2-year, 20-year, and 100-year) and converted to expected annual (see worksheet 'EADExample' and project report).

There are six worksheets for this metric. Four sheets, ‘Census2010_Block_SF,’ ‘Flooded_SF,’ ‘POP_Employment,’ and ‘OTM_Inputs’ provided the inputs used to calculate the pre-project and post-project population exposure for each project: • HAZUS derived total square footage of residential and nonresidential structures summarized by Census Block Group is provided in ‘Census2010_Block_SF.’ • GIS modeling of flooded square footage in the AOI pre-project and post-project summarized by Census Block Group is provided in ‘Flooded_SF.’ • ACS2018 block groups were used to extract population and employment data for the AOI and are provided in ‘POP_Employment.’ • The Census’s The OnTheMap software was used to calculate percentage of people employed and living in the area pre-project and post-project. This is provided in ‘OTM_Inputs.’

‘Step_1_Metric_1’ worksheet is where the inputs are entered and the equation steps described in the metric methodology report are calculated. Finally, the worksheet “Metric_1_Report_Out’ is where the EAD is calculated and the final metric values are collated for output to database.

Note that the project was ended sooner than originally planned and the calculations in this workbook did not go through Abt Associates’ standard quality review process.
