Oyster Data

Adult and larval oyster data collected at Sections 4 and 7 at the end of the spawning season in October 2021. Larval recruitment was measured using larval settlement tiles, or 4 inch by 4 inch ceramic tiles, attached vertically to PVC poles and inserted into the sediment in and around the constructed reefs. After recruitment season, settlement tiles were collected and recruits were counted and their shell lengths measured. In-situ adult oyster densities were also measured post recruitment season using randomly placed 25 cm by 25 cm quadrats on each reef. On oyster castles, 10 random oysters were measured on the top tier and 5 on the bottom tier. On Sandbar substrate, 15 random oysters were measured in each quadrat. Average adult shell heights were measured.
