Grant 80223 (Delmarva Resource Conservation and Development Council)
The project will build community resiliency through protection of the two main economic drivers of the region (agriculture and saltwater habitats), restore habitat for imperiled Saltmarsh Sparrows and important fish species, and build marsh lifespan. This project has four main objectives: (1) Restore 50 acres (phase 1 of a 114-acre project) of tidal salt marsh in the MD Coastal Bays:(2) Complete surveys, designs, and permitting of four other degraded salt marshes totaling 969 acres; (3) Engage the community through meetings, workshops, professional conferences, and engaging fourth grade students in raising and planting marsh grasses; and (4) Monitor several aspects of the restored site to make changes and to inform future restoration projects.
